THE DEETS

Welcome to my little corner of the internet. Nothing like sharing too much information that no one asked for as a first impression.

There is so much to talk about when you first meet someone. Will Brad and Angelina ever get back together? What’s the best song on Harry Styles’ new album? What traumatized you as a child that you’re still working through? I love getting to know people - the good stuff though. The stuff that you wouldn’t put on the internet.

I’ll go first.

I grew up an athlete until I decided to ditch 10+ years of elite training to attend fine art school in another province.

I started running before I could walk. I wake up before the sun everyday with so much energy it’s concerning. It’s a cool feeling when everyday is a clean slate. Another chance to create something new. When you find yourself as the main character in the middle of a story and you don’t know how you got there. Getting to pick up the pen and rewrite the plot. To construct the role you want to play and the sidekicks you want with you. The exciting takeoffs and the crash landings. A story that you’re proud of when the credits roll.

At 16 years old, I was standing front row behind the barrier at one of my first concerts. I thought you couldn’t get any closer than front row, until a few photographers waltzed in, blocking my view. I tapped the shoulder of one of the men holding 2 giant cameras and asked him how he got that access pass.

The gears starting gearing in my head. As an overly confident pre-teen, I sent an email to a random artist’s manager and told them I worked for a music publication that definitely did not exist. I didn’t expect a reply, but then a couple of months later, I was standing in front of the barrier with an access pass getting my eardrums blown off. I felt so cool, and also like a poser. I had never touched a camera before then besides my older brother’s iPod touch. The photos were absolute trash, but you gotta start somewhere.

If you want to know my favourite Harry Styles song, become pen pals, or work together on a creative project… let’s talk.
